Papers pertaining to University of Virginia alumni in World War I, 1913-1920.

The collection contains printed material, photographs and memorabilia, most of which was gathered under the auspices of the University of Virginia European Bureau in Paris. The printed material includes pamphlets and advertisements concerning the American University Union in Europe and other American university bureaus, the Y.M.C.A., and the Red Cross; newsclippings re: University of Virginia alumni and World War I; tour guides; French memorabilia, and a University of Virginia Overseas Alumni Directory. There are many photographs of University of Virginia alumni in uniform and a smaller group of university scenes and events prior to U.S. entry into the war. Of interest are memorabilia of James R. McConnell, a member of the Lafayette Escadrille, and photographs of a Jefferson's Day Centennial Celebration, April 12-13, 1919.
